Frequently asked questions
Learn more about VirtualCare at Exer
What is VirtualCare?
It provides real-time access to a health care provider via video chat with a smartphone, tablet or computer 7 days a week, from 9 am to 9 pm (last patient registered at 8:30 pm).
What will a VirtualCare visit cost?
We accept a wide range of insurance including most PPOs, certain HMOs, and Medicare. After your insurance has adjudicated your claim, we will bill you for the amount due, depending on your insurance coverage. If you don’t have insurance, please see our Prompt Pay Program pricing.
Who is eligible for a VirtualCare visit?
Anyone is eligible to use VirtualCare as long as you are located in California at the time of your visit. For anyone under the age of 18, legal consent from a guardian is required.
What conditions can be treated with VirtualCare?
We can treat the following: Cold & Flu, Fever, Sore throat, Sinus infection, Stuffy nose, Seasonal allergies, Bronchitis, Chest congestion, Eye infection, Eye irritation, Pinkeye/Conjunctivitis, Sty, Skin, Rash and hives, Dry skin and eczema, Poison ivy/oak, Acne, Athlete’s foot, Upset stomach, Heartburn/GERD, Diarrhea, Constipation, Nausea and Vomiting, Other Ailments including, but not limited to, UTI’s, Yeast infection, Joint or Back pain, Minor cuts/scrapes, Headaches. But if you require any sort of testing, you will need to go to an Exer center. Some medications may not be prescribed through a VirtualCare visit.
Can I be screened for COVID-19 (coronavirus)?
Yes. We will ask you questions about your symptoms and condition. Based on that information, we will determine if testing is needed or provide you with other instructions. You will be referred to one of our centers for in-person testing when appropriate. A COVID-19 risk screening is an evaluation of your health and symptoms based on guidelines from public health officials, which determines whether you meet the criteria for testing. The COVID-19 test is via a swab of the inside of your nose. The swab will be sent to our lab for testing. If opted in, we will text you when your test results are ready (U.S. cell phone numbers only). You may choose to receive your results via text, email, or on the web. Please visit our COVID-19 Testing page for more information.
Can I schedule a VirtualCare Visit?
There is no need to schedule an appointment. You simply click to be connected for same-day care.
When are VirtualCare visits offered?
We offer VirtualCare visits from 9am to 9pm, 7 days a week (last patient registered at 8:30 pm).
Can VirtualCare be used for emergency care?
No. If you are experiencing an emergent or serious condition, we advise you to call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room.
How can I be treated without a physical exam?
An Exer provider will evaluate your condition based on your symptoms and will sometimes conduct a visual exam via the video connection (ex. eye infection, rash or something else visible via the camera). Exer will treat you remotely when appropriate (ex. providing medical advice, walking you through at-home exercises, prescribing needed medication). But some conditions cannot be treated remotely and in that case your provider will recommend that you come in to see us at the Exer Urgent Care center nearest you.
What if I need a prescription?
Exer will transmit any prescriptions you receive during your VirtualCare visit directly to your pharmacy.. Please note that we are not able to prescribe certain types of medications, such as certain types of pain medication, via a VirtualCare visit and recommend that you come in to one of our centers for further assistance.
What do I need to have in order to do a Virtual Care visit?
You need a smartphone, tablet or computer with a camera, microphone and speaker. It doesn’t matter if it’s Windows or IOS. You can use Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox or Safari 11+.
